SwapNews, September 2006

First of all, we would like to apologize for not providing an August edition of the SwapNews. We got a new mailing system and had to get that up and running before continuing with our monthly newsletter. We're glad to be back and have lots to share with you.

In the past month we have developed and introduced SwapLocal, which allows you to view swap listings in your local area, as well as other regions. Your personal SwapLocal area will be based on the zip code you provided upon registration and can be changed through the Manage Account link at the top of each page.

Thanks to some great exposure in Parents and Baby Talk magazines, SwapThing has experienced a big influx of listings for children's clothing and accessories. This is a great way for new parents to acquire items for their ever-growing children, as well as an inexpensive alternative to back-to-school shopping. New items are being listed everyday, so check them out and see what you can get your hands on.

Speaking of the kids going back to school, our SwapCircles are a great way for schools to create a community for parents that is useful and generates revenue for the school. This venue is a great venue for swapping parenting tips and ideas, as well as exchange clothing, toys, video games, sports equipment, and much more. The benefit for the school is that SwapThing will give the school 20% of all transaction revenue. It's an easy way to raise funds while providing a valuable benefit for parents. We are happy to work with you to set up a program that best fits your needs.

At SwapThing, we are serious about reputation, after all that is the basis for trusted swapping. Your reputation is all about you, so we feel strongly that you should own your reputation, not us. Therefore, we have partnered with Rapleaf (www.rapleaf.com), who provides portable ratings for commerce. Swappers can rate each other and the ratings follow you everywhere people buy, sell, or swap. With Rapleaf, you'll be able to rate people on SwapThing ... and also be rated within SwapThing (so you can build up a reputation for a fair swapper). We are in the process of migrating our data to Rapleaf, and you can expect to take control of your own reputation next week.

We have also embarked on a new venture by joining the blogosphere with the new SwapThing Blog. This is where we will be talking about all sorts of fun stuff, like SwapThing, swapping, the ShareThing program, cats, football, economics, television, and anything else that strikes our fancy. Check it out today and feel free to leave comments, thoughts and opinions.

On that note, we are toying with the idea of dropping our SwapForum and replacing it with the comments section in the blog. We do not want to make this move without getting some feedback from our loyal users, so please let us know what you think of this idea.

Happy Swapping!
