SwapThing has
undergone an exciting technology transformation and has
launched a new beta version. The revised site is more
community-driven - users can add descriptive tags to the
item listings, which will make for more natural searches
within the SwapThing site and creates a higher degree of
interactivity for everyone. We are moving from a rigid
hierarchy to a folksonomy where users create and input
content in their own way, rather than being forced to follow
strict guidelines. Over the next few months the old category
structure will disappear as the collective intelligence
grows.
Be sure to include plenty of tags when adding to you list
of items. You can also edit your current listings to add
tags, as well as add tags to any items that you come across.
This is your community so participation is encouraged; the
community is what you make it. Check out the Top Ten Tags to see
what other people are swapping, or see the latest items
added to the site.
This is just the beginning of a series of new
functionality designed to expand the social network, giving
users more control and building strong communities through
which exchanges can be made. You will soon have the ability
to strengthen your connections with other users and swap
much more than just your things. Your feedback is greatly
appreciated so that we can continue to make improvements.
Share your thoughts and ideas in the SwapForum
section of the site. We can easily roll them in to our new,
lighter application built on Web 2.0 technologies.
It's been said before, but it is worth repeating: if you
create a SwapCircle
with 10 or more members, you will receive a free swap
transaction. SwapThing users who created SwapCircles have
gotten their free swaps for growing to over ten members, and
you could be the next... start yours today! Find the easy
set up through the SwapCircles tab on the My SwapThing page,
or click the red SwapCircles button that can be found at the
top of every page.
Welcome to the SwapThing Beta - Happy Swapping!
